Yesterday was a very windy day. The leaves were falling down like crazy and it was so beautiful. Sophie was meowing at the door like usual and so I decided to let her into the porch. Our porch door often swings open when it is windy so I put a chair in front of it to keep it closed and then left Sophie in there. About an hour later I decided to go check on her and I couldn't find her anywhere in the porch! The wind must have blown so hard that it blew the door open even with the chair in front of it! Claire and I were frantically looking around for Sophie (Claire really wasn't that frantic, more just ready for a nap) but there was only so much looking I could do while holding Claire and she was getting really tired, so I put Claire down for a nap and continued my search for Sophie. After doing a thorough check of our house and looking a bit outside our house (within the small radius that our monitor can reach), I started to get really upset. I have had Sophie for almost 5 years and even though she often drives me crazy I still really love her, but I had people coming over for lunch and needed to start making my soup, so I prayed about it and tried not to think about it after that.
A couple minutes later I took one last look out of my back window and sure enough, there was Sophie walking around back there! She must have run all the way around the block and made her way under our fence and into our backyard! I was so happy to see her that I ran out my backdoor to get her and scooped her up in my arms. She seemed happy to have found me as well and cuddled right in when I picked her up. I was extremely relieved, brought her inside and rewarded her for coming back with a treat, but as soon as Sophie realized she was back inside she began to meow at the door again. This time, instead of getting annoyed, I enjoyed the noise of my cat knowing that she was back home, safe and sound!
