Two Saturdays ago Matt, Claire and I embarked on our first family road trip! We took two days to drive to Kananaskis. Claire did so well with the long car rides and spent a lot of time playing with her sticker book and colouring (she also loved to pretend to drink from our empty Tim Hortons cups).
When we were ready to head out Claire informed us that she would rather walk the rest of the way.
We got to Kananaskis and enjoyed camping for two nights with my brother Cory, his wife Corinne and their three boys, Tyler, Riley and Sawyer!
As soon as we could see the mountains we started trying to point them out to Claire but she didn't seem to understand what we were talking about at all. Then one evening we were walking around the campground and we came to an opening in the trees and her face just lit up and with both arms up as high as she could reach she said "Mountains!!!".
Next we headed to Calgary to spend the rest of the week with my whole family. It was a great time of catching up, visiting, joking around and watching the cousins get to know each other and play together. My sister-in-law Corinne gave Claire this Jets hat which she immediately fell in love with and played with for a lot of the trip.
Claire and her cousin Jude are unbelievably cute when they play together. It is fun to watch how they communicate without words and learn to cooperate with one another.
My oldest nephew Tyler is amazing with young kids and spent lots of time playing with Jude and Claire. Here he is trying out Claire's portable seat. What a goofball!
On our way home Claire wasn't feeling that great but still was quite excited about the huge moose in Moose Jaw! She slept most of the way home which was quite nice for us and good for her because by the time we were home she was feeling much better.
It was a wonderful vacation and I'm sad that it is over but excited for more of the same in the future!
