Benjamin Matthew

The newest member of our family arrived on June 14, 2014 at 1:42pm. His name is Benjamin Matthew and we think he is absolutely fantastic. He weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces and was 19.75 inches long.

It has been an amazing (and tiring) three weeks of getting to know this little guy and learning what it is like to be a family of four.

Claire loves her little brother (although she refers to him as her little sister most of the time) very much and loves to help with diaper changes and getting him dressed. She was a little freaked out by how loud and high pitched his cry was at the beginning but has now learned to console him by shushing and saying, "It's okay Benji." It's very cute! 

I'm finding the second baby is much easier than the first. I knew so much more about what to expect and actually feel like I almost know what I'm doing some of the time! 

So far Ben is a fairly good sleeper and generally only wakes up 2 or 3 times a night. He also eats faster than his big sister did which makes the nights seem a lot better as well. 

The days have also been going quite well as Ben seems to already have a bit of a schedule so I can sometimes predict what the next hour or so will look like. I have only had a couple days on my own so far but they have gone very well. 

I'm finding the adjustment to two kids much easier than the adjustment to one and I am very thankful for that. This time around I realize that if one or both of my kids is crying it is not the end of the world, I am able to stay calm even when things seem a bit overwhelming and even though I am very tired it doesn't seem quite so debilitating as it did when Claire was a newborn. 

It's hard to believe that Ben has only been here for 3 weeks because I already can't imagine life without him. It is crazy how in love you can be with someone you just met!
